The Islands of the Bahamas host hundreds of thousands of visitors each year and are also home to several iSeries shops. From the Atlantis Hotel and Casino Resort on Paradise Island (just over the bridge from Nassau) to the Bahamian Customs Agency to the local hardware store chain, iSeries plays a major role in every Bahamian visit.
An interview with Shelli Peck, VP Marketing for ProData Computer Corporation tells us what we can expect from the company and their flagship product, DBU - one of the most pervasive iSeries tools on the market. Then we take a tour of the DBUJRN (DBU for Journals) Command in our Product Spotlight.

RPG World returns to Las Vegas and The Orleans Hotel (just off the Las Vegas Strip) in May 2007.
IBM may have listened to Bob Cozzi over the last few months regarding offering a low-cost, easy to purchase iSeries configuration. Rumors are now that IBM may introduce a more reasonable-priced iSeries (oops, we meant "System i5") configuration in mid-September 2006. No world yet if it'll offer only 7200 RPM, 10,000 RPM or the highly desirable 15,000 RPM disk drives.
The closest we can figure is that the new box will be priced similar to Apple's Xserve RAID line. But the DASD on those Apple servers is so high (1 to 7 Terabytes) I'm not sure if IBM will come close.
It is our hope that IBM offers a 1000 CPW model with at least 1TB of DASD, OS/400, WDS/WDSC and all the basic things in the current 520 Express configuration plus at least 4GB of RAM and offer it for under $8000. IBM could offer a smaller configuration in the $5000 to $6000 range--but I think we'll see flying cars long before that happens.
